My project is now complete and I believe the end result looks quite good. Compared to my reference plan, you can see their have been a lot of design changes such as the second bandolier, an overhaul to the design of the legs and changes to the hat. I think I have achieved the aim of the project. This is because I was tasked to "conceive and design a robotic sidekick to accompany you through your avatar’s travels within the Linden Second Life community". As you can see, my robot has a distinct cowboy theme as I have tried to get him to look like a Sheriff of a village. It's main job is to look after and protect citizens and people within the Second life community and it does this by having an imposing tall figure, weapons for emergencies and being designed to be able to fly with a jet-pack in order to catch criminals. This design has achieved the aim as I was tasked to design a sidekick who would accompany me. He can also protect me and others to ensure the second life community remains peaceful, plus, his main purpose is to accompany those who buy him from the store and carry out their commands.
Strengths
I have found that my biggest strength is the fact that I am able to pickup and use software quite quickly. I believe I am very confident with the Newtek Lightwave Modeller software and believe I am fully capable of constructing near-professional quality models and planning them out quite easily. Another strength is my determination. When I start a creative production, I always find my self fully determined to finish it and complete it to the best quality I can, as I know that I would not be happy at all with a low quality, poor model. This is the reason I have also tried to establish something that can be complex. In some areas of my model, I had to think quite hard in terms of what tools to use and how to use them. This, combined with my determination, ensured that an answer would be found so that I could progress with my model.
Weaknesses
I think my biggest weakness is the fact that I spent too much time on the model. This was to ensure that it has the best quality, but I have to ensure that the review and production log were also complete too, so I had to update the production log and complete the review, as well as finishing up and updating others posts all in the same week. This took quite some time and I had to put a lot of extra time in to make sure everything was finished correctly.
A design feature that I think is a bit of a weakness is the arms. I believe they should be thicker and have more to them in terms of creativity, but the simple iron arms seemed to fit. Despite this, I still believe I could have tried something else for them.
Time management
I believe I have used time management skills quite well in this project. I planned out what I would finish each week, and then planned out the time I could use to complete it. For example, on one of the weeks, I planned to fully complete the main body and the arms. To ensure I completed this within a week, I knew it would be best to use extra time by coming into class early and whenever it was available. I used extra time quite often as I planned to spend a lot of time on my model to ensure its meets near-professional standards. I was able to complete the project before the given deadline by using these time management skills and was therefore able to progress.
Software
I felt quite confident using modeler to create my robot. Due to viewing the previous tutorials, I quickly began to conceive ideas on how I would be able to construct my robot using the specific tools found within light-wave modeler. I fully understand the important tools, such as mirror, multi-shift, sub division, size and stretch as well as knowing how to properly manipulate objects, polygons, edges and points to shape them into the specific shape that is required. I am also quite confident with using my mind to be able to construct the object by using the tools in modeler. This means I am able to plan out objects and designs in my head, and then think about the various tools I could use -that are in modeler- to be able to perfectly establish the shape.
